Working principle of pneumatic diaphragm pump




Pneumatic diaphragm pump is powered by compressed air. The inner side of the diaphragm chamber is alternately pressurized and the other inner diaphragm chamber is evacuated at the same time. This causes the diaphragm to move back and forth, and the metal plate in the center of the diaphragm fixes a common shaft used to connect the diaphragm( When one diaphragm is on the discharge stroke, pull the other diaphragm in the opposite diaphragm chamber to perform the suction stroke). 

As the liquid is discharged from the other side of the diaphragm, air pressure is applied to the entire inner surface. During the discharge stroke, the diaphragm can operate in a balanced state, and the working discharge head of the pump can reach more than 200 feet (61) m water column. In order to extend the diaphragm life to the maximum, the pump should be close to the liquid pumped. When the suction head exceeds 10 ft (3.048 m) liquid column, a back pressure regulating device is needed to prolong the diaphragm life as much as possible. 

The alternate pressurization and discharge of the diaphragm chamber is accomplished by an external pilot channel air distribution valve. When the spool moves to one end of the valve body, the inlet pressure acts on one diaphragm chamber, while the other diaphragm chamber empties. When the spool moves to the other end of the valve body, the diaphragm chamber pressure exchanges. The valve core of the air distribution valve is driven by the internal guide. 

The valve pressurizes one end of the valve core in turn and empties the other end at the same time. The actuator piston contacts the diaphragm plate at the end of the diaphragm stroke, which guides the valve to perform a switching action. The piston of the actuator then pushes the end of the guide valve spool to a position to actuate the air distribution valve. The diaphragm chambers are connected by manifold, and each diaphragm chamber is equipped with suction check valve and valve Drain the check valve to keep the flow in the pump consistent.
